He has served as Prime Minister from of Malaysia from 1993 to 1998.

In his long political career he has defended with tenacity the respect for human rights and he has promoted initiatives of development and sustained the campaign for the cancellation of the debts of the poorer countries in the South of the World.

He has held prestigious teaching positions, in several universities, and has been honored with many awards.

He is considered as one of the fathers of the “Asian Renaissance”, and as one of the main promoters of the interreligious dialogue and of the collaboration between peoples on the Asian continent.
