Selangor says Teo note a perversion of ‘jihad’

SHAH ALAM, Jan 19 – The Selangor government has condemned the threat made against Serdang DAP MP Teo Nie Ching as “irresponsible.”
State executive councillor Dr Halimah Ali said today that the use of the term “jihad” in a threatening note was a perversion of the Islamic concept.
“There has been a misuse, perversion of the word “jihad” ... Jihad does not mean scaring a female elected representative with threatening notes and a dead chicken.
“There are more diplomatic ways to express yourself, this is not jihad ... as a Muslim, I apologise to all non-Muslims over this matter,” said Halimah.
A threatening note and a dead chicken were found on a metal door outside Teo’s Kajang service centre early today, and is believed to be linked to her recent mosque visit controversy.
The first-term DAP lawmaker was accused of disrespecting Islam by wearing tight-fitting clothes and not covering her “aurat” during an aerobics exercise programme with the Muslim community at a mosque in her constituency last month.
The note reads: “Ingat!!! Ini satu peringatan Teo nie ching. Tentera Jihad (Remember!!! This is a reminder Teo Nie Ching. Jihad Army)”.
A freshly-slaughtered chicken with feathers, whose blood dripped onto the tiled floor, was also left hanging from a makeshift wire-hook on the door.
“What was done was uncivilised, and should be criticised by all constituents.”
“The act is criminal,” said another state executive councillor Teresa Kok.
